5 marketing trends for 2017

Online Marketing Trends That Will Dominate 2017

Editor’s Note: Today’s article is a guest post by Sushmita, a blogger for efrinternational.com. Enjoy!

We all know what Online marketing is. Right? If not, no worries here’s the definition:

According to TNMedia, online marketing is:

“any tool, strategy or method of getting the company name out to the public. The advertisements can take many different forms and some strategies focus on subtle messages rather than clear-cut advertisements.”

I also love the way Neil Patel explains it:

Online marketing is any effort to spread the word about your company that uses the internet to reach people.

Online Marketing basically includes:

  • Content marketing,
  • Social media marketing,
  • Pay per click advertising (i.e. PPC)
  • Affiliate marketing
  • & Email marketing

The year 2016 was an amazing year for Online Marketing, and each year the industry grows. We’re now 6 weeks into the new year so I must ask, how well are you working on your online marketing strategies?

Are you aware of the current trends related to online marketing?

Jayson DeMers , a contributor for Forbs says:

Marketing is a field dominated by those with the foresight to plan ahead, anticipate changes, and jump on trends before your competitor’s do.

Hence I ask you, do you want to jump on the trend before others or wait until it’s late?

Every marketer today agrees in today’s constantly evolving and adapting world even the digital trends change in the online world. One needs to be up to date with the shifting momentum towards the trends as well as the chaining landscape of the market or else I’m afraid you will be left behind.

Keep reading to find out the 5 important trends that are dominating Online Marketing on 2017…

Marketing Trend #1: Responsive Design, A Must for Every Website

5 marketing trends dominating in 2017

Today, it can be easily said ‘Design and speed are a necessity, not a luxury.’

As a Business Coach or Consultant, I can easily say, that one of the most heard hesitation from companies is that they are looking to redesign their websites is that they don’t want to be antiquated in the coming time.

As the web experience has evolved time by time today the websites with just good content seem to lose the battle against websites which provide the best content in the most effective and efficient way possible.

Google in the year 2011 itself had made its Mobile SEO Practices clear so if Google claims that it prefers responsive web design as the recommended mobile configuration, you better take that as a hint!

What say?

And for those who are unaware of what responsive websites are, ‘A responsive website is one that adjusts to fit the width of the browser, making the viewing experience optimal for any device it is loaded on.’

Like John Rampton says ‘Chances are that you competitors aren’t making use of responsive designs, which means that they are losing out on potential customers. And, that is where you can stay ahead and take those customers away.’

Also one must also remember ‘Mobile search and mobile optimization should be a top priority for digital marketers in the current year.’

Marketing Trend #2: LIVE Videos Becoming a much bigger content platform.

Live video has suddenly become the internet’s favorite shiny new THING.

Today, Twitter (via Periscope), Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram have all released live video offerings to its audience. So it’s not just limited to videos any more but to the exclusive content shared at the moment shared LIVE.

It has provided brands and their fans a whole new way to interact with each other!

Here in India, we even have Television Reality Show who has taken this route where the show telecasts live with audience even voting live for their favorite contestants.

Social media users are beginning to demand more in-the-moment content, giving them a vicarious view into a world or the event which they’d previously been unable to access.

We have actors sharing live feed of where they are heading for promotions for the audience to reach out as well.

Thanks to faster Internet and the ubiquity of mobile devices, live video has become something of a trend on its own.

Marketing Trend #3: Personalization is also a Key!

You might be wondering what I am going to talk about?

In this point we have a word regarding ‘personalized marketing’

As per Wikipedia

‘Personalized marketing, or one-to-one marketing, is a marketing strategy by which companies leverage data analysis and digital technology to deliver individualized messages and product offerings to current or prospective customers.’

Today one cannot mass market products, if you do not know your audience you will not hit the bulls eye.

Personalized marketing strategy should be broken into the following three segments:

  • On-site targeting through modal pop-ups, header/footer banners, sliders, pop-unders and dynamic content blocks
  • Email driven 1:1 product recommendations, i.e. email automation
  • On-site merchandising personalized product recommendations using transaction oriented

Whereas behavior-based marketing begins with the collection and analysis of data. Based on this data, marketers and branding experts devise customized promotion strategies that appeal to potential customer on a personal level.

Behavioral targeting is based on context, and when it comes to personalization, context is everything.

Remember ‘Personalization drives results.’

Marketing Trend #4: Utilizing Data Visualization to tell the story.

Data visualization is the presentation of data in a pictorial or graphical format. It enables decision makers to see analytics presented visually, so they can grasp difficult concepts or identify new patterns.

I agree with Jayson DeMers when he says Data is a Marketers Lifeblood, for a layman it is difficult to understand the same data.

Graphics serve as a great way to enhance visual content and assist the storytelling process. They even help in portraying data visually allows stories to be told in a more engaging and entertaining manner than text.

Data visualization lets you convey your message in a manner people want to view. Pairing solid data with graphics can tell an interesting story that makes an impact. This helps the reader understand your main points while providing the opportunity to personalize it to fit their own lives.

With interactive visualization, you can take the concept a step further by using technology to drill down into charts and graphs for more detail, interactively changing what data you see and how it’s processed.

Marketing Trend #5: Dedicated apps will Build their Own Way.

If you run a business, then it’s crucial that you ensure your customers can find you via their mobile devices. Since it is common knowledge that over half of all internet traffic now comes from mobile users.

We all agree a dedicated application offers all the features of the mobile-optimized website, but in a more intuitive, convenient, and accessible way.

Even Google has offered app indexing which will certainly bring in advantages to having a dedicated app in the coming future.

Nikhil Aggarwal a Content Manager from India says Although we’re still years away from apps completely replacing websites, business owners are realizing their potential, and 2017 will be a pivotal year in mobile app development.

These are the 5 important trends that I think will dominate Online Marketing on 2017. Do you agree? Or do you have a list of your own?
